Our activities
The mission of ARCHES is to actively advance knowledge and support the implementation of EU research, innovation, and development policies. Since its founding in 2003 by a group of Italian scientists with extensive national and international experience, ARCHES has become a trusted partner for research institutions, industry, and policymakers.
Using its strong European and global networks, ARCHES helps organisations secure the human and financial resources needed to develop projects that combine scientific excellence with effective management. The Centre also acts as a flexible and reliable interface between academia and industry, promoting the transfer of knowledge and technology for tangible societal and economic impact.
Aligned with the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, ARCHES focuses on knowledge creation, capacity building, and research collaboration. Key activities include:
-
Establishing strategic partnerships with universities, research centres, and innovation hubs across Europe and beyond.
-
Promoting the training and career development of young scientists to build the next generation of research leaders.
-
Supporting advancing gender equality in science and innovation, recognising female talent, and fostering women’s careers in research. ARCHES is a proud supporting organisation of the European Platform of Women Scientists (EPWS).
By combining research excellence, innovation, and sustainability, ARCHES creates the conditions for collaborative projects that generate long-term impact on society and the global scientific community.
Since its founding, ARCHES has actively pursued strategic collaborations to strengthen its international presence and foster innovation across borders. In 2009, ARCHES co-founded the Brussels-based Knowledge4Innovation (K4I) platform, creating a high-level forum to promote dialogue on innovation among Europe’s key political, industrial, and academic actors.
In 2015, ARCHES signed a cooperation agreement with the Fraunhofer Gesellschaft, enabling the Centre to leverage global opportunities in science, technology, and innovation, with a particular focus on India. This partnership enhanced ARCHES’ capacity to connect research excellence with practical applications on a global scale.
Expanding its presence in Turkey, ARCHES established a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with METU-TEKPOL (Ankara) in 2023, laying the groundwork for collaborative research and innovation initiatives. In 2024, the Centre strengthened its footprint in the region by signing a collaboration agreement with MIA Teknoloji (Ankara), a Turkish unicorn specialising in AI-based solutions, to support advanced technological development and industry-academia cooperation.
Continuing its strategic expansion, in 2025, ARCHES established a partnership with Fotontek (Ankara), an innovative start-up operating in chips and telecommunications, further reinforcing its engagement with high-tech industries and next-generation technologies. In the same year, ARCHES formalised a strategic partnership agreement with ViFrameAI (Istanbul), a pioneering start-up developing multimodal AI systems for medical diagnostics, environmental monitoring, and institutional decision support. This partnership strengthens ARCHES' position as a leader in responsible AI, data strategy, and ethical innovation, connecting research with real-world applications in Europe and other regions.
Through these initiatives, ARCHES demonstrates its commitment to building international research networks, fostering innovation, and promoting knowledge transfer, bridging Europe with emerging markets and cutting-edge industries worldwide.
